I also knew now AS400, which is the OS I had to use to get the data I needed for my project. So, I learned AS400 ... in Dutch. I've forgotten everything I learned, unfortunately, except one word:

I made an American friend there whose last name is Kontje. "Kontje" in Dutch, means "Small" ... er ... "butt." She lived in A'dam for several years and apparently she raised eyebrows each time she passed through customs at the Schilphol. My friend's theory about her last name is that when Napoleon forced the Dutch to take surnames in 1811, her ancestors had a sense of humor and tried to mock the emperor with their choice of name. Alas... she's stuck 200 years later as the "butt" of the joke! (Sorry, could not resist....)Torihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12100418931378459204noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8264230419520515196.post-38743763216793110232008-05-31T08:52:00.000-04:002008-05-31T08:52:00.000-04:00Hey - good job Dad! :) You've remembered a lot.Hey - good job Dad! :) You've remembered a lot.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8264230419520515196.post-32290184927215222962008-05-30T23:16:00.000-04:002008-05-30T23:16:00.000-04:00Hi Dan: that's 'way cool' in any language... and ...Hi Dan: that's 'way cool' in any language... and you can 'talk Dutch' to your sister and your bro in law.... I can't help you very much because "...Sprekt u Engels? Ja! Sprekt u Nederlands? Nee,Ik spreck mar ein betjie Nederlands." and my favorite Dutch word: "Alstublieft" which means "please" but also means "sure", "it's ok" .. and "as you were"... and "fine"... Kim will have to give you the correct spelling of those words... and the explanations....
