Video, Take 1

Thought I'd have a go at doing a video entry for my blog. Let me know if you'd like to see more stuff like this.

Ivy and I loved your Vlog! :) Too fun.
(The sound was coming faster than the picture for me...is it my computer or yours?)

Thanks! It's probably my camera - I'll have to play around with the settings or something...

I love it! (likewise for me, the sound came faster than the pic, but it didn't bother me)

I think it's great! You could have a future on 60 Minutes and you're a deadringer for sounding like a young Andy Rooney. Good job! Dad

Uhhh...can I get a transcript of that?
Just kidding. Good stuff, and good to see you.

Very awesome man! I thought it was very well done. Was this mostly extemperaneous or did you have to plan it out? I vote for much planning, right!

I think the technical weirdness is a result of Blogger's video hosting platform (as is youtube and the rest). Something to do with the way they compress the sound and image so they can stream it.

@Gabe - yeah, it was mostly off the cuff, with a few parts kinda planned out.

I haven't figured out what caused the audio/video disconnect. Probably at least partly my webcam, and partly Google's compression & processing approach.

I'll poke around and see what options I have for avoiding looking like I'm in a dubbed kung fu movie. :)

Nicely done, Dan. Your delivery reminded me of Alton Brown, except he gets a little more excited and silly than you did. I know you'll take the comparison as a compliment - he's very entertaining.

Now, if I can download your vlogs to my iPhone, I can go running and it will be like you're right there with me. Please start producing daily 35-minute clips that are both interesting and motivational. Thanks!

Your former editor here: So far, I like your writing better! But knowing you, the video will be fabulous before long.
